Firefox is quicker and safer. Doesn't really have any problems with sites anymore and I like some of the addons alot.

Yes Firefox is safer but that primarily because the coders haven't written all their nasties for it. They had a big shock when the first release came out, then all the coders found loads of back doors. For the moment at least Firefox will be your best bet, you will need IE7 for some stuff though, not everything loads correctly in Firefox.

Firefox 3.0 has a rathe "Big" security flaw.

http://blogs.zdnet.com/security/?p=1304

It may be safer than IE7 on some aspects, but IE7 bugs generally don't lead to "PC Takeovers"....

The mentioned bug above is rubbish. Just typical scaremongering that gets done on the release of anything new.

Also Firefox isn't safer because no coders have written nasties for it yet. Firefox is typically the most popular browser on the net contrary to common belief. Add up the people using various versions of IE (IE7, IE6 and IE5), then sure I.E. is bigger. But on most typical servers you will find more FF users then IE6 or IE7 on their own....... making Firefox the most attractive for attack. However Firefox is open-source. Anyone can view the code and make changes, and it's developed by thousands of people, not a tiny team. This means plenty of people fixing bugs and making regular updates available. I.E. you are luck to see an update over several months. So don't be fooled, security wise nothing comes close to FF.

Firefox is also much better with web standards. As in, web pages look like what the web designer intended. Microsoft still think they can ignore these. Not only does it give web designers a headache, but often people don't check and you will have web pages displaying incorrectly in IE.

Firefox is much faster as well, as stated. In fact it's the fastest browser available at rendering and loading. Beating IE, Opera, Safari etc etc.

And finally it's features. There is no doubt Firefox is always on the cutting edge. Things like tabbed browsing are now the norm, thanks for Firefox. The major new feature in FF3, that no doubt Microsoft are hard at work copying, is the smart location bar. And it is dead cool, makes browsing so much easier. If you have ever been on a website and forgotten the URL. Well in the location bar you can now just type key words to find your way back, almost like a smart history search. I even use it for eBay stuff, say I was looking engines on eBay, I can just type "Novarossi" in my bar, and it will automatically search and show all related links below as you type.

After using for a little while, I don't know if I could ever go back to old system. One click bookmarking is great too.

I'm using firefox3 at work - oOple is developed for firefox so if you use an inferior browser like IE then things might not look 100% correct, though I try my best to fix any big issues.
not sure about firefox being anywhere approaching as big as IE in terms of numbers, there are still probably many thousands of websites you can't use properly with firefox.

Yes indeed. The bug is scarmongering and absolute rubbish. That's why Mozilla have confirmed it's existence, although they say the risk is "minimal".

Anyway, there is always this browser to play with too:- http://downloads.zdnet.com/abstract....41&tag=nl.e530

not tried it myself, but it may be worth a look, as it uses the IE rensering engine so should be compatible with all websites.

FF for me all they. Used it from original release and just find it so easy to use compared to IE.

That said, I have also got IE7 installed at home for when things don't load properly in FF.

Have to use IE at work too, hate it!

I prefer Firefox, it's more user friendly. And cooler. But it hangs sometimes...

Try the plugin PicLens, it's cool!

I still prefer it over iE7

Opera is supposedly also very good

For me..this order:

Firefox
Nautillus / Konqueror
Opera
Netscape (RIP)
IE7 / Safari

Love open-source. Hate closed source.

Posted from Ubuntu.

Unfortunately the reason why IE couldn't be open source is because it's actually built into the operating system, if it wasn't Microsoft wouldn't be allowed to package it with Windows. There was a big thing on it a while ago where they were told to remove it, but couldn't without rebuilding the entire OS, they are very sly.
Also as it has been built around the Windows Kernal, or integrated if you like, viruses are more susceptible to attacking the system.

Brilliant! Obviously a lot of careful thought and planning goes into its conception and development!

Good to see another Linux user! I'm not the biggest fan of your flavour though, but Debian based systems have always confused. Red Hat all the way for me (Fedora 9 is what I run).

But yes, I.E. and Windows Explorer are integrally linked... exactly what you want when you connect to the the worlds biggest network lol. That said, Microsoft are doing the right things now at least, just a little slow.
