Default steering play on dex210

I have a dex 210, and am from a TC background.

I am astonished with the amount of play at full lock the car has.

when I have a TC - i just put a washer on the inside of the steering knuckle so that it touches the C-Hub - thereby getting rid of play.

Have any of you tried such an approach, because the play of the inside wheel on full lock must lead to inconsistent handling.

Anyway please let me know your thoughts.

I think Jörn did a extra hole in the arm to try and eliminate the inside wheel wobble , not sure if he still runs it. Thats the only mod I have seen done but a washer on the hub may work.

Did you screw it in place or glue it? might pop off if not secured properly with off road

Got any pictures? Bit confused what you're referring to, are you talking about bump steer?

I thought it was on the other end on the steering hub and not on the steering rack side

I had the same problem, it was due to the steering rack that I had on my car
The exotek steering rack is lOnger than standard and reduces lock

Default well...

I must confess that after the post I have not had a chance to go out racing much. I have seen the Jorn mod, and understand that the new optional rack rids us of the problem.

The simple fact of the matter is that even though the inner wheel carries less load in a corner, the fact that it can shift something like 15 - 20 degrees wholly uncontrolled just seems ludicrous - imagine that in a real car?

Set your end points correct and your problem will be gone.

Over 100 UK racers already own the Exotek rack and not had a single complaint on them as yet other than Nicholas's comment on this thread....

You are clearly doing somthing wrong I can get full lock and the inside wheel holding tight with both the standard rack and the exotech version u an currently running the rdp version again with no problems. And I've even tried it with the older style caster blocks and still full lock.

The steering alteration jorn was using probably had nothing to do with lock but more to do with akerman effect the guy is not stupid he would know full well what effect that location would have on the handling of his 210.

I will second Stu here. The wheels both can be made to lock in place at full lock. Take a look at your end point and other steering settings on your transmitter. Make sure they are all set to full and then adjust them back to take any servo strain out of the equation.

Jorn's mod was purely to do with ackerman, not a fault or anything else. Im running the Exotek steering arm to and this is just fine.

Stu
there is another thread about this and a guy has a video of the problem and i can put my end points full and the wheel wobbles! the only way i can discribe it is like an engine at tdc and the conrod can move back and forth a bit this is the same the arm is pulled to straight its hard to discribe!

I also read a oople report from a EOS round last year and Jimmy did i bit were he focused on jorns car and he said the mod was to pull the wheel tighter to stop the wobble.

So thats y i think jorn done the mod as i read it on a oople repot of a EOS round last year

Not argueing just saying what i saw and my experience with it i have the exotek arm now it came today looks fine!

Hiya

Mod or not the steering arms will still noly trail as far as the sweep no the steering cranks, so moving the ball joint in on the steering crank makes no difference to tightness of the kunckle against the C-Hub.

Both me and Stu looked at this last night and can't see how your wheel is causing so much play. At full lock the knuckle is held firm against the c-hub.

I would recommend if you can taking photo's of your setup and posting them, it may be something simple is causing this (and being human it can be overlooked easy enough).

Lets see if we can get it sorted for you

I had the same problem....it was when I turned the wheels full to the right...found that the steering link was getting stopped on the steering arm...filed some away (about 1mm) and that cured the problem
