Help Identifying Losi Please

Hi,

I dont know much about 2WD buggies as I've always raced 4WD but I've bought one off ebay for my son as it was well priced and is complete. It was just advertised as a Losi r/c buggy, I think its an XXX but are there different derivatives?

It's a Losi XXX with lot's of Trinity bling blue parts,

possibly a XXX Kinwald Edition if it has all Graphite parts considering the blue motor plate and threaded shocks although KE had blue plastic body mounts/bumper/motor guard.

Not a BK2 as rear pivot block/motor plate are different and not a CR as rear hubs and shock towers are different

It'll be fine for your son to use, a strong bit of kit and easy to set up, most parts are available still or newer upgrades as replacements from XXX CR.

bit of advice... get rid of the blue aluminium screws... they break really easily and are a pain to remove if this happens.

Some of the blue Trinity parts fetch good money for collectors if they are in good condition.

If you need any parts give me a shout, got loads of vintage losi parts available and particularly XXX stuff

Thanks Mark, I'm going to clean it up as its his christmas present and will be putting a crawler motor in it for him to learn how to drive (he's only 3 BTW). Where is the best place to download a manual? Are the screws metric or imperial with it being American?

Its imperial, if you go to the losi page you can find the manual there, great cars, i still use mine occassionally, always loved them!

it's pretty much the same build as standard XXX manual, there may be a few differences with part numbers but give me a shout if you get stuck.

couldn't find an original XXX manual but chances are it's well hidden in archives as it's a fairly old kit.

Noticed yours has the UJ driveshafts which were a later item on XXX so must have been retro fitted, possibly from XXX CR

noticed that you have the axle spacers behind rear wheel nuts for some odd reason... possibly done because the driveshafts are from a different model... they should sit between rear hub bearing and the drive pin.

I's American so it's imperial hardware/tools required.

Good stuff starting him off at 3, could be a future champ in the making and all for encouraging youngsters to take up the hobby... fear for your wallet though!

the XXX is a fairly strong beast so hope it does him well.

Lol! Its gotta be cheaper than karting. He's actually not 3 until January but was driving my ZX5 the other weekend with the EPA set to 50% and he controlled it quite well so gotta nurture the talent. I tried to get him a cheap Tamiya but don't think there is such a thing, at least if he gets bored I can use it

The grey UJs are actually original. The KE version came with CVDs but as the owner of an original bought in 1999 I can confirm it came with grey UJs.
Make sure you thread lock the screws in the Trinity rear suspension mount - mine have a nasty habity of backing out.

Glad to see someone else is thinking of starting a 3 year old although I think mine will be starting on a Schumacher Cougar and I'll give him the XXX at a later date!

So the car arrived today and after chasing a spider out from behind the receiver I took out all of the electrics and removed the wheels to get at the chassis. So after ten minutes with some baby wipes it came up pretty good

It seems that under all that dust was a fairly lightly used car so I'm well pleased. Here are some pics of the back end to properly help identify it
