Have been super impressed with hobby king and the new uk warehouse. The guys in my club have laughed many a time at my turnigy/hobby king "matched" lipos but after 6 months of club racing they are still going strong

Since the first pair were so cheap i decided to try out the newly opened uk warehouse and was surprised to find that the prices are roughly the same

I bought 2x 5000mah 2s 40c lipos and 8 low discharge AA rechargeable batteries for my transmitter

The cost of which came to 68 dollars delivered Which is about £42!!!!!! You couldnt even buy 1 lipo of that spec for that price from most model retailers

Arrived within 5 days so im a very happy customer.

I think some of the other retailers should take note. Ive had loads of issues with the wrong stuff being sent and parts showing they are in stock only to get a phone call a week later saying they dont have it and wont have until the end of the month

My turnigys are still going strong and have seen off 2 orion saddle packs that puffed up.

I got some hk shorties to try and so far the only problem i had was with customs (duty + vat) who say that they stop everything that comes from hobby king because they put false inv prices on the export docs.

I was ordering Turnigy lipos back in 2010 when not many people knew about HK. I agree that they have outlasted several more expensive packs. Also the same quoted specs as more expensive 'mainstream' packs have more punch and last longer each charge. As they are now 'commercialy available somebody should present them to Paul Worsely for BRCA approval? Good packs at half the price of some other brands. I used to really abuse Turnigy cells when running short course and they have never let me down

Whats involved in submitting a battery and does it only cover that particular model?

i ordered 3 x turnigy nano tech 6000mah from hobby king for around the £90 mark and they never got stopped by customs,

just make sure you click on the euro tab and they come from germany, ( DE Warehouse ) with no unexpected surprises,

get them from the usa store and get your wallet out upon delivery at your address

also there are 2 cheap postage options, choose the cheapest as i did and i got my batteries in 3 days even though the postage time estimated was about 7-10 days and the postage £8 dearer said it takes 5-7 days, glad i didnt go up to the next option.

I've ordered from the HK warehouse, but selected the $9.99 royalmail parcel option. it takes ~10 days to come, but is posted from a UK address. I assume they gather some orders, send them to a handler in the UK, who splits down the shipment into smaller orders and posts them in the UK. I've never had to pay any further duties. I'd recommend them for some stuff, I've had some soft case lipos for my carwler and some 1S hardcase packs for my GT12, and a few smaller bits and pieces.

As I'm sure Paul Worsely will let you know, there is a process to the BRCA approvals, and I'm pretty sure that it's down to the manufactures themselves to apply, and supply all the technical information, samples, and technical design support that's needed to complete the approvals process. So no amount of private unofficial messages to him or anyone at the BRCA will get your cells approved, it will only annoy the BRCA officials instead!

To my knowledge, unless Turnigy themselves do it, it can't happen...so your better off bugging them about doing it instead

I have been running HK nanotech's in my sc truck for a about a year and never had any issues, I have been running the basic Turnigy motors, esc's, and batteries for many years in my planes and heli's and had great results with them. In my sc truck I am running a 8.5t turnigy motor and esc for about 18months with no issues. I have recomended them to others who have tried them and every one sems impressed.

One of our local model shop owners jokingly said to me once "you only get to say Hobbyking 3 times in this shop before getting kicked out"
What are we supposed to do? Pay 3 times the price for it here? I understand that times are hard for shop owners but without Hobbyking I could not afford to be involved in this hobby!

I was hesitant to buy anything from HK when I first heard of them, but through the season I found out many people have had success with their batteries - and other parts, too!

So... Nowadays I run a HobbyKing 6.5T/100A sensored system - affordable at below $100/GBP62 (with customs costs I think I ended up at $120/GBP75), had the adjustability of systems that cost twice that, I haven't compared it with other sensored systems as I drove sensorless before but I am really happy with the sharper throttle response (I drive a completely different car now) and I hope I'll have a positive story on it's durability like the other drivers who use this told me

I also have two Turnigy NanoTech shorties... Half the price of the competition, the same performance it seems, and if they keep doing as well as in the long run as they do in the rest of the field here in the Netherlands, then I consider HK items the way to go for me!

Anyone can send batteries in for homologation but you have to prove that you are distributing the battery in the UK and not just for yourself, when you become the distributor, if one of your batteries damages a hall, tent etc, you will need public liability insurance, as you are the distributor and all claims will stop with you. Anyhows, HobbyKing has a UK depot, they should handle homologation, but I don't think they would be to bothered.

+1 for all the above, HPI Vorza with Hobbywing 150A XERUN speedo, 2700kv EZRUN motor running Turnigy 6000mah 65-130c nano-techs (2 x 2s).
I got this setup a year ago and the batteries are still going quite well after 100+ cycles, 18-19 minute runtimes on astro even with the most powerful brushless system available, why pay more?

Actually i've just bought another batch of these and am able to notice that the ones I bought last year have suffered a very slight reduction in performance in comparison to my new ones but i'm still more than happy to keep using them, it's barely noticeable. After a year of hard use I don't think I really have cause to complain.

I have also experienced the wrath of mentioning hobby king in a model shop.

I think the problem with too many middle men supplying the model shops. They are buying off a uk distributor who are buying from a manufacturer.

Well to get them approved, first they have to actually be legal.
The packs must have been tested to confirm they meet the relevant safety regulations. The importer has to show they meet their legal requirements.

Then they have to be widely available in the UK. Now there are some lipos that are sold from only one or two shops that import them, but they are available from the importer to any other shop that wants to sell them. If Hobbyking UK are the official importer then I believe they would have to make the batteries available through the trade to any other shop that wants to sell them.

Considering how small the racing market is compared to bashers, and how many club racers are already using them, I don't think Hobbyking would be in much of a rush to get them approved. Especially as all the costs and requirements of approval would put up the prices of the batteries.
