Default Etronix Photon 2 ESC, what motor for progressive throttle response...

Hi guys,

I have an Etronix Photon 2.0 60a ESC and 12.0T Motor combo on my buggy. Speed wise it isn't phenomenal but it isn't too bad either.

I run it with 16 degrees of timing in order to not be left behind at the track

The one thing that annoys me about this setup is the lack of throttle progression, as you press the throttle it is weak, weak, weak, and all of a sudden HYPERDRIVE! Which for racing is sub-optimal. I have an old ESC and brushed motor and that's much slower, but the throttle is nice and progressive which I enjoy.

I'm very new at all the more modern RC stuff like brushless, so bare with me Initially I thought it was merely because it was a sensorless ESC and motor, but then I saw a a review http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZ8mo-IY38g and it made me think that perhaps there's a better motor our there for me.

My question is simple, what cheap (I'm on a budget) sensorless motor could I buy that has a little more power than my current motor (http://etronix-rc.com/drive-etronix/...r-3300kv-motor) is compatible with my current ESC (http://etronix-rc.com/drive-etronix/...1-10-60amp-esc) and a much more liner throttle response?

Thanks in advance

Basically, you're not going to get smooth throttle with a sensorless system.

So you'll need to go sensored.

You can get a brand new sensored system for sub £100, mb models have a sale on motors and they have a sensored esc for £45

I'm quite new to all this too, but am learning fast. It sounds to me that you have a not particularly fast motor and you have advanced it too much. Result - no torque. None. But it'll rev to the moon.

The 60A Speedo will handle a more powerful motor than the one you have now. Perhaps a 9.5t or even a 8.5t. Pop one of those in with standard 7 degree timing and gear it down and you might be pleasantly surprised!

You could pick up a decent motor secondhand for £25 or a new less well known make on eBay for a similar amount. Being sensoress will only make the power slightly less linear from standstill.

I had a similar problem to you and found out it was the motor. It was made for a plane so the soft start was ok. Stuck a car motor in and it worked perfectly.
