Default Weight under the steering servo - X2C

Hi folks.

I ran my X2C saddle pack chassis at the Ledbury regional this weekend for the first time & am currently troubleshooting a couple of teething problems.

The main issue is that I've added 40g of low profile stick on weight under the steering servo which has raised the servo by just over 3mm. This in turn had made the angle of the steering turnbuckle from the servo horn to the bellcrank quite acute \

When moving the wheels by hand I could feel a stiff spot in the steering & so added a 3mm washer under the bellcrank ball stud where it connects to the steering servo turnbuckle which raises it & levels out the steering turnbuckle. This seems to have removed the resistance/tight spot in the steering.

Has anyone else had to do this sort of thing when adding a weight under the steering servo ?

I'm just interested to see if my solution is the norm, or if I'm on my own here.

Cheers

Ben Jackson

3mm does sound quite high. I would think 1 to 1.5mm underneath is plenty.
Are you running std or low profile servo? I would suggest putting the weight around the servo if it is that thick.
Did you put longer screws in to hold the servo in place due to the extra height? However I would drop it back down.

Can't remember exact weight I have in the x2c but around 40g ish sounds right but that was standard size servo. That's using a piece of brass shaped to fit in the chassis area around the servo.

You should have popped over at Ledbury I'm sure we could have helped you out.

Personally i wouldn't put the weight under the servo as there is no real room on the car to do so as the servo sits flat to the chassis when fitted. i've stuck the weights around the servo itself & put a couple of 5g weights in the v-shaped sections of the chassis beside the servo, but i have seen people use Savox low profile servo's & stick a brick of lead weights stuck together behind the servo in the space it leaves available.

I run 4x5g gram weights on top of the servo, I have tried the under servo weight kit and didn't like the handling that much. The x2c seems more consistant when steering now. I also run a standard size servo!

Hi I have 15 grams of sticky lead stuck to the back of my full size savox and mostly run 62 grams under the lipo, this seems to work best for me. I've tried all the under servo weights (39 and 79 grams) and I feel they are not for me but to be honest I've not had a problem with them actually fitting in the car!!!

Thanks for al the replies chaps.

I agree with you that 3mm is probably too high to raise the servo & it's down to me using stick on weights rather than a brass part which the chap who sells them says is 1.5mm.

Saying that it went like a dream at our club meeting on Thursday evening so I'll give it a while as it is & then possibly move the 40g from under to behind the servo at some point.

Ben
