Smile Tamiya TRF416 testing by 7 year old

My pals son had his first drive of his new TRF416, testing at his local track, only lasted two battery packs as he got too throttle happy down the main straight front C and hub carrier busted (at full tilt) home and change for 415 ones whilst ordering new 416 ones before his family return to UK.

My pal reackons its faster and more stable than the 415 fore runners so I am looking forward to getting mine circa end of January.

why would you let a 7 year old use such an expensive piece of kit?

cos he was 2nd in the Philipines round of the all Asia Tamiya cup and is currently making a lot of semi pro racers in UK look twice and ask his age.
Look at the results of the BRCA junior races this year, I bet he will start to be in the upper rankings having seen him race in UK now ( up in Scotland ).
I reackon he will relax with his 501X when he gets it as he is so serious about TC racing, buggies will be just fun to him.
I'll keep you all informed as and when he competes in any nationals etc. if your interested that is?

Depends what tracks setup your looking for.

His pit man Dad has one for starters at Stonehaven but I will not give it out as young Alex is entered for the MMUKGP this year; the rest are for carpet indoors so would not be much good outdoors except as a starter unless your interested.

Let me know if you are.

that's just very sad, i wonder how i'd feel if i were to start up touring cars again and were in need of a few good setup tips but 'they can't be shared' with me, shows how self centered touring car drivers can be and wan't to be selfish and not helpout other racers, totally puts me off ever wanting to start up touring car racing again

I've offered Kenny, but as young Alex is now on your team, I thought it was better to let it come from the horses mouth so to speak.

The indoor setup I used last year up there was not disimilar to my carpet setup though for TA05 TRF (different weight distribution to TRF416), plus I used the one set of control tyres for wet and dry conditions and seemed to have better grip than most in spite of my driving (lack of) skills Ha Ha.

I have spoken to Mike this morning so maybe he will give it out, its up to him, he has given it to me though for Stonehaven use, thats why I say its up to him.

I can understand the feelings voiced here by other members of oOple forum, but surely you all can understand my situation as Mike is a very good friend of mine and I appreciate his help and do not want to upset him regarding his setup disclosures to me.

So you give to them, from Low Drag Racing Kenny, I've only voiced my opinions and anyone who knows you knows you love winding them up in fun; plus I take it you realise the person who asked for the setups has his 416 for sale on this forum, only used twice.

I,m sure Ferrari would love to give their F1 setups to McLaren etc; or BTCC Seat to Renault, or would they?

Once again if anyone wants MY TA0-5 setups no problem, but unless Mike says its OK, not the 416 one he gave me.

How about we all remember we are driving essentially toy cars around in circles with the main goal of having a blast with nice people. Comparing the antics we get up to with F1 verges on the insanely ridiculous.

Chill out and enjoy. Even if you do run touring cars

I'd like to defend most of us TC racers...

We are not all like this, I'm happy to share my set ups with anyone and if anyone asks for help I'll tell them everything. This is the same for all the lads I know in TC. If you went upto any driver in the A final at the Nationals they would tell you anything you want to know. (As I'm sure you will know from Olly, Chris).

Look at Ed's TRF site mentioned above, he's a TC racer that shares all the info he knows.

Something my Dad said to me when I was younger, "The good drivers will share their knowledge because they know they can drive and do well, the ones who don't share their set ups are often poor drivers that need every advantage they can get."
