Dear Guy's, small question on motor amount turns!
Motors with an even amount of turns, are these having a smaller rotor?? If so, very strange that an Ansmann 12T is much faster then a Hobbywing 8.5T? So, an even turns motor does'nt have to be slower?? ![]() Thanks for your respons................Appie53. |

Are you comparing a 12T brushed motor with a 8.5T brushless motor?
Or are you comparing a 12T sensorless brushless motor with a 8.5T brushless motor? Motors are better rated by the amount of rpm they produce for every volt or kv from the battery. Sensorless motors are normally even winds whereas sensored motors are always the number plus .5 turns. For example a 6.5T sensored motor can be around 5100kv to 5900kv dependant on manufacturer so it is best to look at the specifications from the manufacturer of the motor. So the lower the wind the higher the kv which means higher overall rpm from the Lipo 7.4v batteries that we now use. Remember though that you also need to gear the motor correctly so the motor and speedcontroller during a run does not exceed the maximum temperature and current rating that the manufacturer recommends. With brushless motors a larger rotor will give you more torque but less top speed. Remember that when racing faster motors do not always yield faster lap times and also with todays complex speedcontrollers you can make a higher wind motor behave like it is a much lower wind motor by tweaking the timing on the motor but watching the temperatures as you do this. Hope that helps a bit.
