Default 3D Artists

There's too much confusing CAD talk on this forum, so lets get creative - who here does any proper 3D modeling, not involving numbers I mean. I know CAClarke does some Lightwave madness. I confess I'm more happy with Photoshop but I've used 3D from stuff like read3D and imagine on the Amiga, to Hash Animation Master, Lightwave, 3DS Max and now use Maya at work (as well as a few bespoke 3D modelers)

At work (this job) I've mostly done concept sketching and photoshop. Some Maya modeling and now working in UnrealEd mostly. After this project I think we're set to start playing with (and using) ZBrush, as there's only one guy that uses it at the moment - but it looks amazing, proper 3D for artists.

So come on, who's a 3D genius, apart from mr clarke - as we know he is.

Id love to have a go at it, but have never had access to any decent programs. So I am strictly a sketch and fine art person.

But like I say, I'd love to have a go with a propper 3d piece of software.

team17(.com) - ZBrush looked like a right bag of toss when I first saw it - reminded me of a program like Bryce - comedy badness. But I guess it's changed a lot, so you CAN 3d model, texture etc all with a wacom pressure sensitive pen. Tbh you'd still want to model the basics in Maya or something but the detail you can then put on with ZBrush and how easy it is to use is crazy.
Really nice for games as you can keep your low poly model but use the normal map generated from the super high poly Zbrush version.

I think there's a trial on there if you wanna have a play - http://www.pixologic.com

I made an ace low poly JGTC Honda NSX for a racing game once, I did it in zmodeller, but I can't find it

I was really pleased with it and my textures, but then someone else re-did the texture for me and I was blown away with how cool it looked... I almost cried with proudness...

I really want to find it again, it must be somewhere....

Elvo is a very good 3D designer, I think he uses SolidWorks (only) now. He's made some really nice RC car chassis designs!

Myself I tried Calligari TrueSpace many years ago, but I never really had the patience. 2D and PhotoShop suits me better

Jimmy, tell us more about your (paid) work! Mostly graphics for games?

Cool! Part of my job is VMware & SAN, we're looking into NetApp for the time being. Very interesting solutions! I especially fancy the de-dupe and snapshot technology!

Anyway, not bad for after work then!

Who does 3D body models for A-C? (if anyone does?)

I use Solidworks most days at work, and have done for the past 7 years or so.

However, it is used mainly for layout work, and detail design, not any of this fancy rendered stuff!
