Default Help with Kyosho ID

Just bought this project...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/180919913711...#ht_500wt_1028

Advertised as a Lazer ZX-R, though I have some doubts.

Firstly, the chassis looks like Carbon Fibre LWB Turbo Optima Mid Custom. Is this right?

Secondly, if some of it is Lazer ZX-R, is this a mkI car? The pics are not the best, but I can't see a slipper spring which leads me to suspect this.

Anyhow, I'd really appreciate if the experts can help me here before I start sourcing.

Many thanks in advance

It looks like a Optima Mid Custom Special to me. Definitely not a Lazer.

It looks like a Mid Custom indeed (one-piece radio tray), but it has Lazer arms, hubs and rear tower fitted.

Now, if it's a mid custom special is it hard to source the missing bits I need. E

Could I borrow off other optima mid parts?

All the bits you need (front gearbox etc) you can get from any optima mid. The main difference between the Optima mid and the mid custom is the long wheelbase chassis and belt.

Full specification is:

Long wheelbase Mid with lwb conversion kit chassis so car started as either a Turbo Mid or a Mid Custom Special due to grp motor bridge.

Rear end has Lazer suspension with Lazer ZX shock mount and Mid Custom/Lazer ZX-Sport shocks.

Front end wishbones and C-hubs are Kyosho Maxxum FF. Steering knuckles are from SRM Racing which are plastic with threaded inserts for kingpins.

As said above, all the missing parts to get it going are standard Mid parts.

BTW the Mid Custom Special wasn't anything rare, it was just the standard race spec long wheelbase kit.

Yeah, I don't think those FFs were very popular.

the front arms on the maxxum when i had one were identical to the mid ones, maxxum was useless if you tried to put anything other than a stock motor in it.

I've decided I'll probably just break the car up and sort parts out as spares etc...either someone did not know what they were quite doing or just experimenting.

All the same, I don't think I want to source the missing parts to make up a complete original. In fact, some of those bits will be handy to finish other projects.

I must disagree on that. All the mods Terry mentioned are reace-worthy improvements over the original.
Whoever did this must have really loved the car and put good efforts in to keep it competitve along the lazers and other newer cars

Well to me it looks like mish mash! It was sold to me as a lazer zx-r which it clearly isn't. Anyhow it has been broken up for a mid custom special and spares for a lazer zx which I am yet to build.
