Default Setup help: 2WD Gear Diffs

Hi everyone,

I've just modified my TRF201 to fit a gear diff (from a Kyosho Ultima SC). It has 3000wt oil in there currently, but never having driven a gear diff, I don't know what oil would be a good thickness to start with for a 2WD buggy - and as it's not a common mod, I can't find TRF201 setups that can tell me anything about it.

I drive on clay and sometimes also on astroturf. I'd like to try it on both surfaces, but the first test (in two weeks) will be on astroturf.

So my question is... What oil do you use in your gear diff, or what would you recommend starting with?

Thanks for the replies!

So Tomk26B4, the 3000wt oil in the diff you sold to me should do the trick on astroturf? That's great, that means I can use it straight away.

I did notice it wasn't filled up completely (about a 30-40%), is there any harm in that (as long as it doesn't leak away)?

As I understand it, you don't need to fill it completely - just over 1/2 way usually (so you cover the "base" of the crown gears). More than that and it leaks into the gearbox! The oil is to add resistance to the gears operation, so they don't need to be fully immersed. HTH
