If its a three channel radio, is the throttle hold toggle flicked on?
That overrides your throttle setting on the sticks.

Also, I know there are two types of reciever, the old black and the new blue.

Are yours both the same colour (ie. your original Code one and the new eTronix one)?

Jsut done a quick search and this thread has something that may help.
Its not directly related to your problem, but shows there might be differences between the Core and eTronix stuff:

I always thought the two TX/RX's were the same but rebranded too, but who told you this - are you absolutely sure?
There may be a subtle difference which is why you are seeing the problem.
To keep things simple I would have gone for the same make as you had.

Try a Google search to see if they truly are interchangeable.

If they are, then it sounds like a busted RX.

One last thing that just came to mind - those trannys can store different models, so have you made sure you are binding to a different model setting than your other RX?
If in doubt, do a factory reset on the TX.

EDIT: another thought - are you 100% SURE the channel 1 servo lead is the right way round and in the right slot?
The BIND plug has to be removed too.
I used to own the eTronix, and doesnt it say in the instructions that you might have to reverse 2 leads of the three coming from your servo? I know this is only in some situations, so make sure before you do it as it might short something out.

I edited my last post with a few new ideas.
i was getting caught up in the Core/Etronix thing, rather than just checking simple wiring.
Check out the above post.

If it still doesnt work after that, I agree it might be a dead RX.
Modelsport are awesome, so Im sure they will stand over it and get a new one for tomorrow if you give them a call.

Good luck (and post back to let us know what it turned out to be!)

Although I thought the differences were shown in the colours. Live and learn!
