Default Any luck finding Durga parts?

Has anyone had any luck find replacement parts for the DB01 Durga?

I am an old-timer and have not been involved with RC cars for about 20 plus years. My Grass Hopper still runs though (hee, hee). For Christmas I decided to get my son involved and decided to buy him a Durga. We finally built the car and a have only ran it about a dozen times so fare. It seems that we missed a part during the build so the drive belts were exposed. Needless to say it seems a piece of wood mulch has gotten into the drive housing and caused the front drive belt to slip to the side of the center pulley causing the pulley to become melted into a ball of smooth plastic. I have spent the past 2 weeks trying to find a replacement part #53989 and #53989 but have not had any luck.

None of the local hobby stores carry parts for this car. In fact, more than half of the stores I called never even heard of it? I called Tamiya and they could / would not help. All they told me is they don’t have stock on this item and can’t place an order. Also, none of the on-line searches I did came up with anything.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where / how to get some parts for this car? Why so hard to find?

The few bits I have bought are from Stella ( www.stellamodels.net ) who although based in Hong Kong have always got stuff to me within a few days.... and they do carry some parts & hop-ups.

Cheers!

I'm shocked that Tamiya wouldn't help mate, where abouts are you? This part is shared with the TRF501X Worlds car, so it shouldn't be too hard to find. Not sure if I have any spares or not (I have the older, smaller pulleys) but I'm sure someone will add some links on here or send you a PM with some shops.

Like I said though, I'm shocked you couldn't get any help with spares for this car - Tamiya seem to be dropping the ball.

Unfortunately right now we are all out of stock on those two parts....even I cannot get them for my kit!!! A lot of the ordering for parts is done on a prediction basis of how popular parts will be. I think what happened as far was there were a few race events that really threw us off, and the popularity of the DB01 was much greater than expected. We never thought that people would be selling their B44s and 501xs to buy a DB01.

I am not sure who you talked to when you called, but I do apologize that they could not help you more than stating we are out of the parts. It is true that when we do not have parts in stock, we cannot take any sort of back order or preorder or anything of that nature due to the amount of time shipments take, customs, and other things. We are looking into bulking up our ordering of these and other parts that are useable on the 501X, 501x WC and DB01 since there are a ton of people who will now want these parts. I am not sure where you are, but Tamiya USA should have some more parts soon.

I was a bit surprised that Tamiya could not help either. Basically, they told me what TRF_AK said. They can’t take any orders unless they have it in stock. I asked if there was an expected date when these parts might be in but they could not tell me that either. Kinda strange if you ask me. I never heard of a company unwilling to take a backorder or not knowing when they will be getting product in. How does Tamiya know the demand if they don’t take orders?

I must admit I am rather disappointed with Tamiya. It’s been 20 some years since I ran RC cars and used to love Tamiya products. I never had any problems getting parts and every hobby shop carried them. Now-a-days, I must have called 20 or 30 hobby shops in the area, I am just outside of Chicago Illinois, and only a few carried Tamiya and only a few of these even heard of the Durga. Defiantly not what I remember from the good old days…

I was seriously thinking about buying another Durga or the Baldre so my son and I could race each other but given the fact that we have a $200 car that can’t run because of a $4.00 part I doubt I will be going with another Tamiya.
I guess we will be running my 20 some year old Grass Hopper till we can get the parts for the Durga.

I worry about the ball diffs, as it sounds like they can be a weak point if you run a faster motor?

What are the part numbers for the relevant bits to fit the TRf502 pulley & diff halves that Jimmy mentioned?

Cheers!

TA-51286 is the number for the one-piece solid diff side plates/outdrives from the TRF501X. I think Trf502 is a typo error. You will still need the TA-51287 diff rings though but on the 501X they are not glued to the diff plates according to the manual (although I read in another post on here that that not gluing them causes its own problems).

I have some 51286's but haven't fitted them yet because I think the diffs SHOULD be OK with a good motor IF they are adjusted properly. The prob I had with them was my own fault because they were a bit sloppy (I'm a newbie at setting ball diffs) but not so much that it was that noticeable with a 7.5T brushless. Therefore as soon as I fitted the 5.5T the rear diff had a bit of a wobbler but in all fairness, it still works OK, just sounds as gritty as hell.

I've ordered some spare diff pulleys, drive rings and diff outdrives just to be safe but can't be arsed to fit them yet - too many other things to do (like decide whether to buy a Sony or Nikon DSLR for a start!!!). I intend to rebuild the diff as per kit, adjust it properly this time, then see what happens. If it still insists on self-destructing, I will use the 501X stuff and the ceramic diff balls I ordered last year which have been in my spares stash gathering dust.

Back to the original question, the diff pulleys are the same part number for the Durga and 501X Worlds Edition.
