Default Cell layout

Hi all,

What difference does it make to have all the cells across the chassis?

Obviously all my cells are set up in saddles to fit the D4, and don't really want to mess around splitting them to 2-4 layout.

Or how about if I lay them in saddle form (3-3) from the motor to the servo, with the elec's either side. I know this would mean modifying the chassis with the dremel, but just thought I'd ask.

Tel, i was wondering the same thing. Like you with the D4, hopefully i will have the serpent with the 3 x 3 saddle packs but the only thing putting me off was the 4 x 2 layout and i won't have enough cells for both cars and i won't be arsed changing them all the time

Hi Guys, you can run the cells as a stick right accross the chassis, and mount the electronics in the front where the 2 cells would normally be - this will partially compensate for the cells hanging out wide. To put the electronics here you may need to fabricate a new cell brace which doesn't limit the height over the electronics somehow - something like on my X-60??

With cells, it is a fair amount of weight to hang out wide, and it does make the car pitch more than the 4+2 layout, but do try it. You might actually like it.

or you could make them in to a 2-1-3 pack so they will work in both cars pain in the ass yes but saves on money and cells
i think they have to do that in the s4 s2
but i do agree with you two guys on the x5 x6 combo is a better call

It may be worth the risk at £100 for the conversion what would be needed to convert back to the original b4 spec.

Hi all,
Obviously being a mirage driver I can't go and get the X5.

So I think I'll just put them across the chassis.
By doing this chris, would I have to stiffen the shocks a little to compensate for the extra weight 'out wide'?

Thinking about it, yes, as it is moving the weight rearward too. So perhaps up one rate on the spring and go from there... I haven't done this, but it may be that the setup ran with 4+2 also suits 6 accross, might have to lower ballstud to compensate for steering thought.

When are you racing next? if im there I will pit with you.

I know Paul Lemieux ran his X - 6 with the cells straight across the rear of the chassis at one of the larger off-road races here in the US. He did pretty well with the car. It definitely had more rear traction, but he struggled with the car wanting to roll in the corners and just say "rolled over" - it wouldn't square up nearly as fast as he wanted. He ended the race with a thick sway bar on the rear along with a thin swaybar up front. So it has been done before.

I personally have not done it and probably wouldn't recommend it though. The 4+2 just really works for the X - 6. I think the 3+1+2 layout would be best; I know making up and handling the packs would be a pain but they'd fit in the X - 6 just fine, and I expect the D4 as well (not sure about the S500 though...?).

You could go 3+2 and just run 5 cells... put like a 3.5 in the 4wheeler and a 5.5 in the buggy, you'd be set!

just looking at it, I've not got all the elec's in it yet, does the nosram/lrp sphere fit under the shell without taking the fan off?

I have an LRP Sphere TC in both the X-5 and X-6 and there is no problem with the fan hitting the shell.
