KV is a bit of an odd rating, it stands for RPM per volt. So theoretically if you are using a 7.4 battery and a 4500kv motor, you would be getting 33,300 RPM on the output shaft. Motors are not all that simple, as some have better torque than others. as once you put a mechanical load onto the shaft, i.e. your gearbox your motor will not actually be spinning at the max RPM.
But as a simple guide, the bigger the number, the faster the motor, it gets more complicated you you look at motors with multiple poles etc.
