The versions are evolutions rather than revolutions hence the consistent b44 name. I couldn't tell you each change in the model history, but with a little online research you could find them, battery placement is a big factor based on what you already use or plan to buy, eg saddles or shorty's. Personally I would just get the latest model in the best condition with the best hop up's and spares I could find or was offered. You could place an ad in the wanted section and see what's on offer. Any of the b44 range with proper set up will be better than you will be as a novice, they have won many championships over the years. I wouldn't discount the b44.1 offered from Mark above, any spare cash could buy you a decent Lipo, servo and/ or shell.
