Not sure how new your engine is but normally I would warm the engine up with a hairdryer and try and get engine upto temp first. It's also worth leaving the glow starter on if the engine is cold or new to help keep it running to start with.

Try watching this video as it's very useful showing you which way your engine is and how to tune it ready but this is based on an engine that is broken in
