Ebay Sales:
On 13th June Tomy Intruder sold for £337.00 + £10 P&P
On 13th June Tomy Intruder EX sold for £330 inclusive of delivery
I have been buying Tomy cars and parts for some time. I’m one of these people who are prepared to spend well over the odds to own something that doesn’t always come up that often. Unless you are Dan who seems to have found the Tomy rainbow
Recently though I have been fortunate enough to pick up a few spares and buggies. I have even managed to get hold of some rare ish items that I’m grateful to own. Some of you would spit your coffee over your keyboard at the prices I have paid. I have also got lucky and managed to get some items for next to nothing. These haven’t been purchased for an investment to resell at some future date. I have purely purchased to keep and enjoy, if I ever go off them they can just sit in the loft.
I was however amazed the other day with the sale of two Tomy buggies. While I obviously don’t know what goes on behind closed doors and these buggies often change hands for unknown sums outside of auction sites or forums. I recall an Intruder selling around the end of the year on the US ebay for the equivalent of around £300. Adam’s Tomy Intruder is one of the nicest I have seen, the paint job is so amazing I actually have a picture of it saved on my PC. Sad of me I know! The car was boxed and included instructions, the box was damaged. I feel Adam got a fair price for this car. If I didn't already own a number of Intruders I too would have bid.
The surprise of the day was the Intruder EX. Selling a few hours before Adam’s Intruder this went for a lot less than people had been guestimating. Yes the car had a shell with windows cut out, would you race an EX any way? Yes the front shock tower was incorrect and not the EX version but that’s pretty easy to sort if you know the correct people. There may also have been a reason for the difference in tower.
Both the cars look to be in great condition, I genuinely though the EX would go for more and would have estimated around £600. Maybe it was the timming of the auctions and their respective finish times. I noticed Adam's received a number of last second bids. The EX didn't.
Of note is also a set of unused front and rear Intruder wishbones/suspension arms which sold for £36. Prices in general seem pretty decent for the sellers. On the other hand there are some random bits on the US Ebay site which have been up for months. I guess the appeal of the Tomy cars is small and unique but to only a few.
I have noticed a few people selling of their buggies lately. Hopefully it’s not due to any secret knowledge of an impending recession / WW3 / Zombie apocalypse. I do think over time these buggies will potentially lose their value.
My original RC hobby lifespan was cut short. On my list of cars to own and race at the time was the Intruder, which is why some years later I managed to get one and things snowballed from there. I wasn’t even aware the EX existed but being the person I am wanted to own one as soon as I found one for sale no matter what the cost.
