If you want to replace the gears, you are going to have to replace the complete gearbox internals. The rerelease uses a 3mm pitch belt, so you will also have to replace the front diff as well.
The rerelease diff is mounted on 10x15 bearings, while the original uses 8x14mm, so to mount the new parts in an original gear case would mean finding some 10 x 14 bearings, which as far as I know do not exist.

The only way you can upgrade the gears is to replace the complete gearboxes including the gear cases.
