Halfords clear lacquer seals and protects, but with all solvent based coats over water based paints, don't put it on too thick or the paint will crackle. I find the best way is to use a hairdryer on the shell to warm it slightly, then put a fine mist of lacquer on and dry again, then recoat with lacquer.
BUT, I'd still advise gaffa tape for any areas that may get rubbed as the vibrations from running the car will still scratch the paint of it isn't taped
