Similar to timing on a car, the more degrees advance you have the hotter and harder the engine runs and the more fuel it uses.
Until it explodes.
Just experiment. Start with no timing, no boost, no turbo, then add some.
Timing is useful if your motor is under powered.
Turbo is useful for courses with big open straights.
Boost can do either.
There are few hard and fast rules, just guidelines.
