The flats on the layshaft have been machined too far down the shaft, so the slipper plate is supported in the wrong place, there is stuff about it on the American forums. When I built mine I have a spare b4 layshaft kicking about so I swapped it for that but I would think if you contact CML they should replace it for you FOC as its a fault in the kit and not you have done something wrong.
