set my kids off on steering wheels as the future is cheeper than sticks and you can get some great specs at a good price, the one thing I found is I had to put some large fuel tube on the break side of the trigger as the gap is huge for little fingers and their finger is to short to push the trigger away for breaks/reverse, the fuel tube is great as it closes the gap up nicely. Also buy a smaller set to start off with as a huge heavy set with drop down etc they struggle with holding the set up and operating the throttle at the same time.
son uses spectrum at the min, can't remember the model but it has everything you need for about the £100 mark, and it has taken a few careless drops
