If you run it across you have the option of a forward and rear positioning. Forward if you want more front traction and more rearward for more rear traction.
This can help if your tyres wear out during a race meeting and you need to adjust the balance of the car.
Inline moves weight more central and gives less body roll which is better for higher grip tracks. You can also cut the bulkhead between the 2 battery retaining threaded posts and run an inline forward motor setup and move the speed controller next to the motor. Lots of options you can try but it all depends on the track you race at.
