Prone to exploding might be overstating it a bit, 30 years in various campsites (and wild camping) and I've seen one go. And that was a canister that the guy had left rolling round in his car boot for 6 months.
Oh, and the German dipstick who lobbed an "empty" canister into a fire pit.
