Thanks. I have stripped the base car down over the weekend and cleaned everything and have taken the advice from this thread to try fitting the belt just with the normal gearboxes.
I've fitted the 2 ball diffs and used an OT89 belt. Re-assembled the gearboxes and fitted to the chassis rails to get some idea of tension and it seems great. Presumably the option gearbox I was after simply allows the fitting of the pulley wheels to maintain tension in the belt? I have studied the image posted by gomachv, but am not even certain at this stage whether it needs it as it seems great already? Obviously the proof will be in the pudding when I reconstruct everything and see if it works.
Gomachv - have I interpreted this right - is the cut out section to allow for the pulley wheels? I can't find any decent resolution photos of an original W0105-2 gearbox to see what the difference is
