Your SX3 will be more than good enough. Just make sure it is well maintained, and everything is aligned and moves freely.
If you fancy a change, a lot of SX3 components are carryover to the K1 (the suspension and corners), but the drivetrain is more simplified... so it should give you a feel for what your going to get from a K1.
As others advise, ask at the club, make a note of the most popular car being run at the club, see what kind of support you can expect from team drivers at your local club, and then make a decision .... but give the SX3 a chance first, it's a good car.
Most modern cars (incl SX3) are strong, reliable and competitive. Consider the availablilty of spares, and as mentioned above, the support available from fellow racers.
I'm obviously going to advise the K1, but I genuinely think its the strongest, most reliable and easiest 4wd to drive that I've had.
