The Durga is a world of difference from the DT02 - the Durga is loosely based on the current Euro Champion car. The DT02 is in no way based on a race buggy. I can't really see Tamiya being scared of the competition, if they wanted to, they could put more money into a 2WD buggy than just about anyone. Parts support from Tamiya UK for these race vehicles isn't good (it doesn't exist?) which is why I have just about anything you could possibly break on a 501X

I was told Xray were planning on doing a 2WD buggy - have to wait and see, maybe there will be something at the toyfair next month.
