What speedo do you have? (And what car, 2wd/4wd?)
If it has boost and turbo available (one or other, or both) the difference between 6.5 and 7.5 is almost negligible, little bit of fiddling with the gearing and you should be good to go.
I've dropped from 6.5 to 8.5 recently (on a 4wd) and noticed no massive difference in top end. But control on the wiggly bits is improved.
