A second hand Xray is the way to go. Great quality and they age well so are still decent second hand.
You'll pick up a decent T4 for around £160, which will be way better than anything new costing the same amount.
For everything else (buying new)...
Hobbywing Justock - £35
Vampire 17.5t Motor - £65 and basically indestructable
Intellect Lipo about £50 - only need one pack for 17.5t
Savox 1251 Low Profile Servo - £45
Radio gear - spend as much as you can afford
Don't be tempted by anything faster than 17.5t for the first season or two, 13.5t boosted is about twice as fast as anything that existed 10 years ago, most newcomers/returnees I've seen go straight into this class have had a nightmare.
