Basically you can set when the timing comes in and ends by RPM. You work out the highest RPM by getting the kv of your motor and times that by the voltage. So my Speed Passion 10.5 is 2800kv off the top of my head, times by 7.4 is 20,720rpm.
With that in mind I set it so 20 degrees of timing comes in at 5000rpm and ends at the highest (20,720rpm) as an ending point. This way it only comes on down the straights. I ended up lowering the amount of timing that came in from 20 degrees to 17 and that was as quick as any 7.5 on the straight but twice as driveable.
That was my starting point anyway! Hope that helps
