It might be possible, but this reduces the number of active coils. This means that less coils have to make the same compression, putting more stress on the material. This can damage them and alter the spring rates/make them inaccurate. Besides that there's also a chance that stretching the springs over the seat will damage them too.
With my financial situation, I can't risk damaging sets of springs
