Hi
its because the motor wires are covered in a type of insulating lacquer
that is applied to stop the wires shorting in the can windings, you need
to scrape back the wire with a hobby knife or small file (or dremel)to remove it
this is quite a common problem, and can cause cogging if you don't
get a good connection
