This was my favorite car when I was a kid. I remember it was horrible for offroading but I beat every single one of my friends' expensive top of the line RC's in races all the time. Damn thing flew! It looked so cool, too.
XRC was always kind of the knock-off brand but they always had awesome gimmicks. I miss RC cars like this. My dad got my son a 70 dollar RC monster truck for Christmas from Wal-Mart, a New Bright Mega Blast, and the remote build and response is so piss poor, I've had better 12 dollar models. They just don't make 'em like they used to. My dad already pitched the box (he wanted the RC car out on display under the tree) so I can't take it back. Not that I like taking back gifts, but New Bright.. holy crap I can't believe they charged 70 bucks for it. There can't be 50 cents worth of decent hardware on that thing.
Now I'm broke after Christmas but find myself wanting to get my son a good quality RC car. He's only 3 years old, though. So it's not like it matters. He is a huge Monster Truck fan and the New Bright is HUGE. It just doesn't turn, the remote cuts out, and the battery lasts 10 minutes before you charge it again. I can't believe it was 70-80 price range. When I was a kid, 70-80 would get you the best freakin' RC car on the mainstream/non-hardcore hobbyist's market.
