I think it depends on how damp the surface is; first time I went the surface was damp all the time I was there and tyre wear was virtually non-existent. Second time, it was noticeably drier and tyre wear much more evident. Front tyre wear not as noticeable.

This is M3 rib fronts and a M4 rears. I found you could run M3 rears when its damp but M4 was the way to go when the track dried.

I've only been a couple of times so not professing to be an expert, just sharing my experience running mid motor 2wd.
