Would you keep a cheaper, larger nozzle airbrush for this job?
I've been brushing the liquid mask on but need to leave a long time between coats or it will soften too much when applying the next coat. This means it's usually a few days before I've finished applying liquid mask...

Sounds like the mask may have gone off it's taking a few days to dry. Fresh mask can be dried between coats with a hairdryer (if it's sprayed on thin). Ideally put on a coat, then put the shell somewhere warm (like over a radiator) the mask dries great then. When it was sunny, I just put them in a hot car - dried in 10 - 15 mins
