Id scrap the stuff you have put on already, if you can get it off the shell - then start again with RCS mask.

Re thickness. What I do - is - do not cut the shell out, so when you mask it, mask it all even the bits you won't paint. I also spray on 3 to 4 coats. When dry I cut a small piece on part of the lexan that is not the shell as such, to test thickness. If it peels away ok it's fine, if it's a nightmare to get off it's too thin. When you have done a few you get a feel for it.

With liquid mask, too thick is fine as it still comes off ok, too thin is a nightmare to get off.
