I have not personally done this mod but i have seen it done and it works well.
On the steering knuckle the bit where it touches the hub at full lock drill a small hole and screw in a very small button head screw.
Then when the steering is at full lock the screw head will take up the difference and stop the slop without any loss of steering travel.
