Second-hand Futaba 3GR (2.4ghz) is what I'd go for. You can pick them up for around £100, sometimes less. Fantastic radio for the price, never any issues with interference or binding, and instant response.

The el-cheapo sets aren't worth it for the small amount you save. A radio is a long-term investment as a good one will never wear out or need upgrading.
