The plastic shim is a roll centre adjustment I think, and the white clip is a cover to stop any crap going into the thrust race.
To adjust diff all you need to do is pop that little cover off (just rotate it round don't remove completely) then stick a slim pokey device of your choosing through the hole and diff screw and turn the opposite wheel to your liking
