I've run them in both the converted buggy and jacked up tourer styles and its easy to see why they don't exist as a class for long.
The problem is that either way they are like the real thing, neither a true on road car nor a true off roader. That means that whilst you can run them on a 1/10th off road track, they aren't as good as a buggy, and whilst you can use a touring car track with a few jumps on it, well thats just touring cars that don't handle as well.
The best place I ever raced them was the buggy based widebodies (mine was a LWB Optima Mid under an RS500 shell) at the old Southend track. That was a true multisurface course but with few jumps, so the cars went well there and looked awesome.
Rallying needs suitable tracks - flatter than a 1/10th buggy track and multisurface in order to separate itself.
