Ha I have seen this question asked several times, I think the general rule of thumb is
Low profile tyre is mounted on a narrow wheel with no insert
Normal profile tyre is mounted on a standard wheel with an insert
By no means is this how you have to do it as at the weekend I did see someone have a low profile tyre mounted on a wide wheel as he liked the way it handled at the track he was running at
