I was able to replace mine.
Using a hammer I gently tapped the pin till flush, used a 1.5mm "tapered punch" to drive it in a bit further, then drove it out the other side with a "2.5 parallel pin punch". I bought the pins in Ross's post above, cut them down to about 11mm and used a hammer to tap them in. Used the TF2 grease also referred to.
I'll see how long its lasts.
