I just want to know what the lowdown is on the DEX210 with a shorty pack - what does it do?
The only advantage of buying the normal pack would be the additional runtime the higher mAh-rating would allow you; otherwise, for racing, you don't need anything rated any higher than 3500 (or so) mAh.
By using the shorty pack it allows you to custom weight your vehicle, whether it's through the use of a lipo plate (as others have suggested) or by placing sticky weights where you want them in the car to meet your personal preference.
Saddle packs would allow you to have batteries that would be dual purpose, as they could also be used in any 4wd you purchase (which tend to use a lot more mAh than 2wd cars).

So.... it basically comes down to you.
