I've had four different 22's, multiple different gearbox cases, used both balldiffs and geardiffs - and not a one of them have bound or tightened up.

My guess is that you've warped the plastic as a result of overtightening the screws. These screws only need to be snug, NOT tight (the ones into the alloy motor mount can use a dab of loctite). But once you've warped the plastic you've ruined the parts, and they have to be replaced.
Do as others have suggested and buy new gearbox halves, and assemble and re-install WITHOUT overtightening any of the screws. I'll bet your "problem" will be solved.
