Always on the chassis (sprung), always on the centre line and always between the axles. That way the weight adds to the load on the wheels, and doesn't have too much impact on the ability of the car to turn.

Alloy axle is not my choice, it will bend easily in a shunt. Better to go back to the steel one and then re-check the weight. HTH
