Having a go yourself is great ! Keep it simple though and you won't be disappointed. Just to some simple patterns on the first one with block colours so you get used to cutting the masking and working with both the airbrush and the paint.
Then on the next one try a fade between colours or a shadow or something and you'll soon progress so you can do yours and your son's cars without the need to pay anyone else on here. It's really rewarding looking at your own car and thinking not only did you build it to race but you painted it too.
