Haven't read all the posts, sorry if I'm repeating someone else's thoughts.
You need google adsense and about 30,000 hits a day to keep a family living off a website. I know redrc.net has had 30,000 hits on a day, but don't know how regular this is.
I know Jimmy has said that he doesn't want to sell out (and his ass
) by covering the site in advertising, but I personally don't see the problem in covering the "News" section in advertising and puting a paypal donate button on the top of the forum. Ads sold directly to a client can bring in about £25 a month (generally 320x75 pixels), more if you offer exclusivity in sections and links directly from product reviews to a shop. Large banner ads (180x600) can get £100 a month......Financial issues would be quickly quashed if this was implemented.
Just to say, I'd happily donate a tenner if the Donate button was put up.
