They can sound rough if built incorrectly i think. I'm sure a slack or tight mesh will be the most likely cause.
Slack or tight belts could be a problem.
Also the belt seperator not being fitted or fitted incorrectly can cause a problem.
It is also possible to build the lay shaft up so the slipper plate locking pin is fitted incorrectly, this can cause noise and excess slipping.
Also a slack slipper will cause noise / vibration.
Overtightening the motor clamp or fitting a dirty motor can may cause problems.
I have to say after building / driving many different belt cars, this one has an excellent drive train and mine is super smooth and drives like a shaft driven car with an unbelievable amount of drive.
I absolutely love my K1...
