410 Hot Hot Hot.. What pinions do you use?

I recently bougth a second hand 410v3, I have fitted a 6.5t Exceed motor which I have used in another car previously with no issue. I went for a practice and found that after 5 mins of running the motor was quite a bit hotter than I would like.
I have checked and the drive line feels free and the shell has plenty of holes to create a flow of air. Therefore I'm thinking I must have it slightly over geared (to be honest it was pretty ballistic). I am currently running a 22t pinion and the 87t spur and was thinking of shifting to a 21t pinion and an RW Racing 89t spur. I'm increasing the spur rather than dropping to a 20t as I need to make sure the motor stays where it is as I'm really tight for space using my HW Esc.
Can I ask what gearing others are running? Does this sound about right or do you think I have some other gremlin causing my heat issues??
